Ozonated water is revolutionizing cleaning and sanitation technology through its efficient and environmentally friendly application. The technology enables versatile use in areas such as floor cleaning, textile care and dishwashing, replacing conventional cleaning agents and achieving significant energy and chemical savings.
Active oxygen refers to the use of ozonized water for sanitation and cleaning. An ozone generator produces O3 by electrolysis, which is bound in the water and thus becomes ready-to-use ozonized water. Once enriched with ozone, the water effectively attacks bacteria, yeasts, moulds, viruses and dirt, which are broken down into fine particles.
As soon as the cleaning and sanitizing process is complete, the ozonated water returns to water and oxygen. Its disposal poses no danger or environmental risk. The use of an ozone water generator enables continuous production on site and saves time and costs. Active oxygen provides a reliable source for various applications.
The basis of this process lies in the electrical voltage that acts between two circuit boards, the anode and the cathode. This splits the water molecules, with the oxygen coming directly from the water.
This innovative technology ensures outstanding stability of the ozonized water. The concentration of 28% ozone by weight not only ensures effective cleaning, but also reliable and consistent performance.
BES ozone water generators are based on a closed system that meets the highest safety standards. As the system is completely sealed, there is no risk of gases escaping. This makes the technology not only extremely efficient, but also one of the safest options for users.
Cleaning with ozonized water is a sanitation process using O3. Ozone is a molecular compound of three oxygen atoms (O3) in which two oxygen atoms come from the basic oxygen molecule (O2) and contains a third oxygen atom that can easily be detached from the ozone compound and reattached to other molecules. When this third oxygen atom, also called a radical, binds to the molecules of other substances, it can destroy their structure through oxidation.
Ozonization is the infusion of ozone with water to both disinfect water and to be used as a sanitizing agent for various applications and industries. In ozonation, ozone, as a highly reactive oxidizing agent, directly attacks the surface layer of microorganisms and destroys their cell walls. When ozone is added to water, it quickly dissolves impurities without changing the composition of the water.
Ozonized water is used in many ways as a cleaning and sanitizing agent in professional cleaning services. It can replace conventional cleaning and sanitizing agents and can be used, for example, in scrubber-dryers for floor cleaning. Floor cleaning is carried out exclusively with natural tap water, without the use of cleaning chemicals, and achieves cleaning results comparable to the use of conventional floor cleaners without causing a build-up of layers. Ozonized water leaves no residue whatsoever, which means it can also be used without hesitation in food processing companies.
Ozonized water is widely used in the textile cleaning sector in particular. Ozone water generators are connected directly to the water supply of washing machines. These generate ozone, which is dissolved in cold water. The ozone penetrates the textiles, removes dirt and eliminates most stains and unpleasant odors, which are often caused by organic compounds. In addition, harmful microorganisms are effectively eliminated. The advantages of this application are that it is possible to wash at lower temperatures and save a large amount of energy, while at the same time reducing the consumption of detergents by 70%.
In addition, ozone water generators can be easily connected to dishwashers of any size, allowing dishes to be cleaned efficiently and in an environmentally friendly way with ozonized water. This method not only enables thorough cleaning, but also leads to considerable savings in dishwashing detergents, which can be up to 90%. The use of ozonated water in dishwashers not only optimizes cleaning performance, but also minimizes the environmental impact by reducing the use of chemical detergents. This makes the use of ozonized water in dishwashers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for commercial use.
Another common use of ozonized water is for washing food to extend its shelf life and improve its appearance. The ozone reacts with bacteria and fungi on the surface and kills them. It also thoroughly disinfects the food. In the case of fruit and vegetables, ozonized water also removes pesticide residues and substances used during transport to extend shelf life. This makes them safe for consumption.
The legal framework for ozone was defined by its inclusion in the list of active substances of the Biocidal Products Regulation EU 528/2012 on June 2, 2023. In future, companies selling ozone generators in the EU and Switzerland will only be allowed to operate with European authorization. The EuO3TA trade organization plays a key role by being one of two organizations in the EU that markets ozone under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation. Applications must be submitted by July 1, 2024 in accordance with the EU Biocidal Products Regulation 528/2012. Membership of EuO3TA is essential for this. The organization supports its members in the application for approval, which requires proof of the efficacy and safety of ozonated water as a disinfectant.
Overall, the use of ozonized water is an outstanding solution for effective and sustainable cleaning in various areas of application. The many advantages, such as the high disinfecting power, the environmental friendliness due to the absence of chemicals, as well as the significant savings in cleaning agents, make ozonized water a forward-looking choice in the professional cleaning industry.
