The Wetrok Academy offers comprehensive training and further education programs that develop cleaning staff into highly qualified specialists. The extensive range of courses includes 18 different courses, all of which take place at the training center in Kloten. These range from basic courses to leadership and management training. We had the pleasure of meeting Christina Weidmann, Head of Academy, for an interview.
Introduction of Mrs. Christina Weidmann, Head of Wetrok Academy
Ms. Weidmann originally graduated from a school for tourism and hotel secretaries. After a year in the hotel industry, she worked in the operations center of an IT company. She later found her true passion in teaching when she moved in-house to the training department. She has remained true to her subject and has conducted various training courses for Diversey and AMAG. Ms. Weidmann has been head of the Wetrok AG Academy since 2018 and still thinks her job is “very cool”.
Ms. Weidmann, can you introduce the Academy in two or three sentences?
We impart specialist knowledge for professional cleaning so that employees in the industry can do their job properly. We follow the motto: “Learning with fun”. The aim of the Academy is to convey enjoyment of work and, above all, appreciation for the work.
How long has the Academy existed?
The Wetrok Academy in Kloten has been in existence since 2000. Before that, it was a smaller training center in Oerlikon.
Why did Wetrok decide to set up an academy?
As we clean we need to know a lot about materials, products and machines and their application technology. This knowledge is imparted in our courses in order to train the participants to become specialists.
Who is the Academy aimed at? Who is your target group?
An alle Menschen, die in der Reinigungsbranche arbeiten und ihr Fachwissen aufbauen, erweitern und kompetent auftreten möchten.
Many foreign-language workers work in the cleaning industry. Do you have a special offer for them?
Yes, we also offer our basic courses for foreign speakers. We run these courses with fewer participants and adjust the pace accordingly. Participants are also allowed to use their translation tools, for example on their cell phone.
What modules does your training concept include?
We offer a beginners’ course (basics of maintenance cleaning), which teaches the basics of professional cleaning. This course is very well attended, whether you are a career changer or a long-time cleaner. The follow-up course “Basics of intermediate and basic cleaning” can be attended as an extension. We also offer these two courses for foreign language speakers.
This is followed by specialist courses on special floor coverings (wood, textile or stone), disinfection and hygiene in everyday cleaning. These courses are one-day seminars for prospective experts.
You even have a Master’s course. Can you briefly introduce it?
The master’s course includes the courses mentioned above and the special courses “Successful management and organization” and “Cleaning organization, planning and calculation”. The prerequisites for the master’s course are at least two years of practical experience in professional cleaning and in handling cleaning equipment and machines.
With our Master’s course, which we have been running for several years, we offer these people confirmation that they have the specialist knowledge for cleaning and can therefore apply successfully. Our course is well-known in the industry and is regarded as a seal of quality.
Do you also offer individual courses for companies?
Yes, we offer on-site courses throughout Switzerland and in neighboring countries (Germany, Austria and Italy). You can choose between half-day or full-day seminars. We can run the courses in German, French, Italian or English.
What are the biggest challenges with the training courses?
The different languages of the participants are sometimes a challenge for us as course leaders. Our courses are structured in such a way that theory and practice alternate so that what is learned can be put directly into practice.
Why should someone come to you for training?
Because it’s fun and you gain knowledge and tools for professional cleaning. The Academy welcomes anyone who is willing to lend a hand and learn.
Thank you for your time and introduction!
